The Pearl

The book, The Pearl, by John Steinbeck is 90 pages long with a great moral that is beware of worshiping things that are outside yourself and family. Kino, Juana, and their baby Coyotito are given no respect because they are extremely poor, but all changes when they find a pearl in the water. They are given more respect when they find the pearl such as, before they found the pearl Coyotito was bitten by a scorpion and the doctor refused to give him treatment because his family was poor, but now they are wealthy the doctor helps the baby. The family had so much faith in the pearl until everything changed for the worst. The ending is so sad and devastating to the parents when Coyotito dies, but not by the scorpion attack. The characterization of Kino is a leader and brave due to his dedication to save his family.
Kino is very brave and a leader in this book. He was always leading his family to where they needed to go to save them. He took them through mountains and tough times to save them. He also took a huge risk that could have killed him. He even stated,” If they kill me…” so he is very dedicated to save them. Kino must love his family a lot to put a lot of dedication to save his family. Kino is very brave and a leader.
