Destine to Live

The devastating book Destined to Live by Ruth Gruener with 156 pages is a true story of a child in the Holocaust. Luncia is a care free child living in Lvov, Poland with her Tatu and mother. All is well until the Nazis invade Poland and the starting of the Holocaust. The family goes through seperation, in the ghetto, and in hiding in Christian homes, for many years. The wonderful part of this sad story is the family survives victoriously. Luncia is brave due to her bravery during this tough time.
Luncia is very brave. When the Holocaust was going on Luncia was only 5 or 6 when she stayed, without her parents, in the Szczygiels's home, a Christian family. She also was in hiding for many months without them, but finally they reunite in a different family's home who are willing to let the family stay. At the end, when the Holocaust was over, Luncia and her family wanted to see their old friends, but found out they didn't survive. Luncia had to be brave to go through all of that. The hardships she went through are brutal and terrible, but she survived it all.

Marley & Me

The book, Marley & Me by John Grogan is 289 pages long with an amazing story about a beautiful relationship between a dog and its family. John and Jenny want to start a family so they start off with a dog named Marley. This troublesome dog tears furniture, eats expensive necklaces, and causes a lot of trouble. When John and Jenny have their children, Patrick, Conor, and Colleen, Marley is still up to mischief, but protective and loving towards the kids. Marley became a huge part of the family, but tragically dies at the end. The characterization of John is calm due to his softness and not as firm with Marley.
John is very calm. Whenever Marley does something wrong John never seems to react except by being surprised. John is not very firm to Marley other than his wife, Jenny, who will become furious with him. Maybe one of the reasons Marley was a troublesome puppy was because John wasn’t as firm with him. John is very calm. This story is heartwarming and tragic, but a wonderful story.

The Pearl

The book, The Pearl, by John Steinbeck is 90 pages long with a great moral that is beware of worshiping things that are outside yourself and family. Kino, Juana, and their baby Coyotito are given no respect because they are extremely poor, but all changes when they find a pearl in the water. They are given more respect when they find the pearl such as, before they found the pearl Coyotito was bitten by a scorpion and the doctor refused to give him treatment because his family was poor, but now they are wealthy the doctor helps the baby. The family had so much faith in the pearl until everything changed for the worst. The ending is so sad and devastating to the parents when Coyotito dies, but not by the scorpion attack. The characterization of Kino is a leader and brave due to his dedication to save his family.
Kino is very brave and a leader in this book. He was always leading his family to where they needed to go to save them. He took them through mountains and tough times to save them. He also took a huge risk that could have killed him. He even stated,” If they kill me…” so he is very dedicated to save them. Kino must love his family a lot to put a lot of dedication to save his family. Kino is very brave and a leader.

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a heartwarming book. Lennie and George are as close as brothers, and George is protective of Lennie because he is mentaly retarted. They both get jobs as farmhands where everything is trouble. Curley, a foreman, is always fighting with Lennie. Lennie and George have a huge dream to own their own plot of land where Lennie can "tend the rabbits." The ending is so unexpected and suprising that I cannot tell you, so I guess you will have to read it. This book has lots of heart and everyone should read this beautiful story.
